A spatial model of Marion Island's palaeo-ice extent

چکیده
Abstract Sub-Antarctic Marion Island's glacial history has acted as a control on abiotic terrestrial processes and the colonization distribution of biotic species found island today. Recent chronological studies have shown an early deglaciation identified new geomorphological features associated with past ice dynamics. These permit reassessment extent during after island's last local maximum. In this paper, we provide revised reconstruction palaeo-ice by using geomorphology-based approach to delineate margins demarcate possible basins. The model presented here provides needed spatial context for future variations in (e.g. microorganisms plant species) forms soil development periglacial landforms). addition, it highlights areas that require improved geophysical assessment order produce more complete island-scale former extents west coast).

Arctic Sea Ice Extent Prediction
Climate change is a pressing and present issue which has come to be at the forefront in the last few decades. As such, understanding climate change is of utmost importance. In addition to environmental impact, these changes will have social and economic ramifications as these changes will affect the way in which we utilize land and sea resources in the future. The minimum annual arctic sea ice ...
متن کاملinvestigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures
deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
Optimization of a Sea Ice Model Using Basinwide Observations of Arctic Sea Ice Thickness, Extent, and Velocity
A stand-alone sea ice model is tuned and validated using satellite-derived, basinwide observations of sea ice thickness, extent, and velocity from the years 1993 to 2001. This is the first time that basin-scale measurements of sea ice thickness have been used for this purpose. The model is based on the CICE sea ice model code developed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, with some minor modi...
متن کاملSimulating the Greenland ice sheet under present-day and palaeo constraints including a new discharge parameterization
In this paper, we propose a new sub-grid scale parameterization for the ice discharge into the ocean through outlet glaciers and inspect the role of different observational and palaeo constraints for the choice of an optimal set of model parameters. This parameterization was introduced into the polythermal ice-sheet model SICOPOLIS, which is coupled to the regional climate model of intermediate...
متن کاملMolecular phylogenetics of the Macaronesian-endemic genus Bystropogon (Lamiaceae): palaeo-islands, ecological shifts and interisland colonizations.
Abstract A molecular phylogenetic study of Bystropogon L'Her. (Lamiaceae) is presented. We performed a cladistic analysis of nucleotide sequences of the internal transcribed spacers (ITS), of the nuclear ribosomal DNA, and of the trnL gene and trnL-trnF intergenic spacer of the chloroplast DNA. Bystropogon odoratissimus is the only species endemic to the Canary Islands that occurs in the three ...
